Who is Spectrum?
Spectrum Community Arts Ltd. is a not-for-profit organisation providing performing arts workshops for people with disabilities and additional needs. Spectrum was founded in January 2017 by Jade and now she delivers weekly out of school clubs and bespoke workshop programmes for Special Schools, SEND departments within mainstream schools, charities, adult day services and other organisations. Here at Spectrum Community Arts our aim is to enable participants to develop their self-esteem and self-expression in a safe, encouraging environment. We strongly believe that the performing arts are a fun and exciting way to do this and a perfect platform to nurture and develop individual skills and abilities. We have a timetable of 9 different weekly out-of-school clubs providing a safe space for our participants to stay active, make friends and have fun! Jade, our founder, has planned and facilitated an extensive range of performing arts workshops across the UK and abroad for all age groups and abilities since 2011. After graduating with a 1st class degree in Drama & Performance and English Language & Linguistics, she went on to perform and create multi-sensory theatre productions and understudied for Frozen Light Theatre in 2017. She is passionate about using her love of the performing arts to help develop the self-esteem, self-expression and social skills of her participants. Jade founded Spectrum CA in 2017, developed it into a not-for-profit company in 2019 and currently is the lead facilitator and director.
Why are we looking for Sponsors?
During the pandemic we lost income from our classes and fundraising opportunities during the 18 months of lockdowns and restrictions. Many of our participants struggled with isolation, a lack of opportunities to socialise and keep active and saw an increase in their anxiety. We now have an abundance of participants wanting to reap the benefits of our sessions and not enough classes to offer them all. However, with our overhead costs rising and a depletion in funds from the lack of fundraising during Covid, we’re looking for sponsors to support our main project. We want to continue our 9 timetabled weekly ‘out-of-school’ clubs. Offering a space for everyone to be themselves, without judgement. We also want to use these next two terms to develop Spectrum from the inside, creating a sustainable organisation and the possibility to open more clubs in the future!
History of Spectrum Community Arts
Founder Jade, benefitted from the performing arts herself. She was painfully shy as a child until she joined a performing arts club, where she made true friends, grew in confidence and felt like she could be herself. Jade went on to study Drama and English Language at University where she volunteered for a performing arts club for adults with learning disabilities. There she witnessed first-hand how the performing arts were benefitting the performers and her passion was born. A few years after graduating and gaining experience with various different companies and organisations, Spectrum was born! It exists to provide a safe space for people who can't access the mainstream, neurotypical groups to explore the performing arts and help develop self-esteem, self-expression and confidence! We pride ourselves on creating a safe space where people can be themselves without fear of judgement!
Aspirations
In the near future we'd like to develop our offerings for those with complex and profound disabilities and additional needs. Creating immersive and sensory performing arts workshops to go into special schools and more events during the school holidays for those with profound and multiple disabilities. We'd also like to become a registered charity. Our longer-term, bigger aspiration is to have our own fully accessible arts building — complete with a dance studio, black box studio, theatre space, sensory rooms, recording studio and arts rooms. That's the big pipeline dream! Naturally, we want to support our sponsors and build them in to our organisation on a strategic level — allowing all of our partners to benefit from our ever-improving facilities, expanding audience and our community involvement.
