Here at Spectrum Community Arts, our aim is to enable participants to develop their self-esteem and self-expression through dance, drama and music.
Our weekly term-time clubs are safe spaces where everyone can unapologetically be themselves! All groups are invited to perform at different events throughout the year, including our annual showcase!
Accessible For All
Spectrum's workshops are specifically created for people with autism, disabilities and additional needs. Clubs are either Sensory (aimed at those with a higher level of support needs) or Non-sensory sessions (aimed at those with a lower level of support needs).
All our sessions include:

- Access to sensory bag/ear defenders
- Volunteers to support with engagement
Small Class Sizes
Weekly Sensory clubs are kept to a max of 10 performers.

Frequently Asked Questions...
As a parent/carer, can I drop-off?
Parent/carers are given the option to actively participate, sit in the room or drop-off. HOWEVER, a parent/carer must remain onsite if their performer requires any personal care, support with toileting or medication (including emergency epilepsy meds).
What about my flight-risk child?
We are welcoming of those deemed a 'flight risk' and have plans in place to safeguard these performers as best we can. We do ask that this information is shared with us via your registration form. Each situation is reviewed on an individual basis and in some cases, we ask that a parent/carer remains in the session to ensure everyone is safe.
Can siblings join in?
Siblings are welcome to sit and watch if necessary, but we ask that they don’t join in please. This supports the judgment-free workshops and helps us keep all our limited spaces for those who don’t have access to other mainstream sessions. All our venues have ‘waiting areas’ for families to be while the Spectrum sessions are happening.
How much do sessions cost?
All weekly clubs are only £10/session. We offer x2 ‘pay-as-you-go’ taster sessions and then ask for payment in advance for the term. If there is an issue, please don’t hesitate to get in touch as we have payment plans and more in place to support those that need it the most.
Can those with physical disabilities join in?
Yes! All sessions are adapted to suit the access needs of those booked on. Please make us aware of their access needs in the registration form. We have lots of performers who are wheelchair users, walking-frame users or can’t stand for extended periods of time. We make adaptations in all of our sessions so everyone can join in in their own ways!
Can those who are non-speaking join?
Yes! All sessions are adapted to suit needs of those booked on. Please make us aware of their preferred communication methods in the registration form. We use Makaton and PECS in all of our sessions and have lots of non- speaking performers engaging in our sessions!
Which is the best session for my child/person I support?
Please click on each club that is the right age bracket for your child/person you support and have a read of the information. As a general guide – those clubs described as ‘Sensory’ in the title are aimed at those with a higher level of support needs. If you’re still not sure – please do call us on 07741280382 and we will happily chat with you!
Do you need a formal diagnosis to join in?
No! We understand that this process is a long and tiresome journey. Our sessions are aimed at those who struggle to access mainstream performing arts clubs due to suspected (or diagnosed) disabilities/additional needs/autism.
